Through humorous examinations (and sometimes unrelenting seriousness), Bek Maples writes her way through the ridiculous and the traumatic events of life.
She cultivated her observations of subtle hypocrisies beginning with her childhood in the mission field of New Zealand. The daughter of a Baptist minister whose health issues brought the family back to the states, Maples grew up with a keen view among the pews and an understanding of the failings of humans just trying to eek out a religious life.
Major life events like the incarceration of her father, and, later on, the religious abuse of a lying pastor that led to her being shunned by people whom she considered to be close friends, Maples turned her scholarly interests toward pro-social reactions to punitive religious abuse and healthy religious practice.
Maples’ professional accomplishments include undergrad and graduate degrees in English Literature with concentrations in creative writing, and she is currently a university lecturer in composition and technical writing.
Accept that you’re vulnerable. It’s the only way to live.
